How does Resilient Fields fit with other online tools and programs?
Resilient Fields was built for Ontario farmers to complement already existing tools and programs. Where appropriate we have created direct links and provided you with references to explore different programs in detail, such as Cover Crop Decision Tool, AgMaps, Manage Resistance Now, and others.
Do I have to enter in my farm information?
We recommend that you enter your farm information to help articulate your field challenges and to make a record that can be shared with your crop advisor. If you don't have time to enter your field information, you can go directly to the BMP Conflicts or the Solution pages.
Is the program using my specific farm information to come up with the solutions?
Your specific farm information is used to identify problems. The possible solutions are standard for all farms in Ontario. Thinking about and entering your information helps you and any advisors you work with articulate your problem areas. Your situation will guide you to the solution(s) that best fits your field challenge. The program does not predict possible problems but helps you deal with problems based on your knowledge. Be sure to review the BMP conflicts associated with your field challenge to help determine the best course of action for your farm.
Who developed these solutions?
The Resilient Fields tool was developed by a team led by Agri-Food Economic Systems with support from the Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario and the Ontario Federation of Agriculture. The field solutions are based on expert advice from agronomists across Ontario backed by an extensive literature review of over 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles. Certified Crop Advisors are testing these solutions with Ontario farmers as part of the project. Input has also been received from the Grain Farmers of Ontario. Feedback from the beta test will be incorporated to the final product being launched in 2022.
What if I disagree with a solution?
Your specific field situation may be unique and require one-on-one expert advice. We encourage you to contact a certified crop advisor to discuss your situation.
What if I have more than one type of soil in my field?
Select the soil type of the problem area of your field. If you have more than one issue in the field, you may need to look for multiple solutions for the different areas.
What if I have both flat areas and sloped areas in my field?
Select the slope choice of the problem area of your field. If you have more than one issue in the field, you may need to look for multiple solutions for the different areas.

Can I print, save or forward my information?
On the final page of the site, you will have the option of printing or downloading the file. The printout will include the farm and field information you entered as well as the problem areas and solutions you selected with the corresponding references.
Who has access to my field information?
The only person who has access to your information is you and whomever you choose to share it with. Resilient Fields does not save your information and therefore cannot access it or share it.
Why are records important?
- Records allow you to compare problems, solutions and outcomes over time.
- Complete records facilitate better discussions with your certified crop advisor.
- Records are proof of your sustainability efforts which are becoming important as more players along the food chain are asking for confirmation of practices.
- Records support your social license and therefore the crop industry’s social license.
- Records can help you educate environmentalists about your sustainable practices.

This project is funded in part through the Canadian Agriculture Partnership (the Partnership), a federal-provincial-territorial initiative.
